The Dexter Grist Mill - #45, card

$3.00

5x7 note card

"A dam here would provide the power we need for a grist mill," said William Dexter, back in 1646, and before they knew it, he'd built it. (Grist is a somewhat archaic word meaning ground grain.)

Rebuilt as a popular historic attraction in 1962, the mill has a foundation of stones brought from England as ballast. One of many well preserved historic buildings in the Cape Cod village of Sandwich, the Dexter Mill has been the subject of many poems, articles, photographs, and as in this case, paintings.
