For many years before 1963, when a badly needed addition was built, the Free Public Library of South Dennis on Cape Cod was thought to be the smallest library in New England. Only 15 by 20 feet, the tiny house was given to the town by Jonathan Matthews. Where the house originated, no one knows. Some say it was built in Dennis in 1858, others say that it was moved all the way from a campground in Wellfleet. In any case, this vest- pocket Victorian is fondly regarded by tourists and natives alike.

Like so many of us, Karen has been fond of "gingerbread" houses since her childhood and her painting reflects that storybook kind of fondness.
