What a surprise it is when you come around a bend and see a wooden tower about 15 stories high! It's no ordinary shingled structure, either. Capped with turrets and dormers, copper roofs and intricate detailing the Lawson Tower makes everyone wonder what in the world they're seeing.

It's not a house or an office building or a ladder display, it's a water tower. Imagine the great timbers inside that frame the structure. Imagine the scene it caused as it was being erected. Life is full of surprises. The Lawson Tower has been known as the most photographed, beautiful and expensive water tower in the country.

Thomas Lawson and his wife were offended by the looks of the unadorned water tower that overlooked their estate and had this beauty built, giving it to the town in 1902. Patterned after a 15th century Romanesque tower, it is 153 feet high, visible by land and by sea.
